2022 Ned & Henry's Shiraz

"A very good friend of mine challenged me to produce a traditional, full-bodied Barossa Valley wine with the only criteria that it could be drunk young at lunch or dinner and did not stray from my fundamental wine making philosophies. French oak, fine grained tannins, balance, clear fruit expression! Those who know me well know that I just love a good challenge!” - Dean Hewitson.

Reviews

"Hewitson aimed for a more traditional full bodied Barossa red with this excellent Shiraz. He’s done it to point, but there is polish and poise here that elevates it into a more individual style. Loads of dark plum fruit characters on the nose with a little coffee and spice, finished with a slightly dry flaky rust-like character. Like it. 94 Points" - Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

"Rich, ripe, and gorgeously fragrant on the nose. It shows Black Doris plum, sweet cherry, violet, and toasted nut aromas, leading to a splendidly weighted palate filled with succulent fruit flavours backed by beautifully infused tannins. It's wonderfully structured with an abundance of complex flavours. At its best: now to 2036. 94 Points" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"From the Steingarten Road Vineyard with an average age of 30 years. Winemaking sees 16 months maturation in French oak barriques. Pulpy and bright Barossa nose with plenty of ripe plum, sweet oak spice, ‘fruits of the forest’ conserve and a little potpourri. Cheeky middleweight, offering all the fruit you want without being encumbered by anything extra. Oak and pepper spice with a spread of powdery tannins make this enjoyable drinking. 93 Points" - Regan Drew, Wine Pilot

"The classic Barossa fruit profile and lines are here but with a bit more space and mid-weighted verve. Which was exactly the challenge set by a friend of Dean Hewitson and he's nailed the brief. Black and blue fruits, abundant spice, just the right amount of crunch to the fruit, chewy tannin grip and an energetic vibe. It all makes for great drinking. 93 Points" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

"Another generous big hug straight from the Barossa. Dean Hewitson specialises in producing some of the friendliest reds in the country that come well-priced and bursting in flavour. Ned and Henry’s was created on a dare when the maker was challenged to produce a traditional, full-bodied Barossa wine that could be drunk young. Consider challenge met. An arresting bouquet in black fruits, plum, chocolate, liquorice, earth and spice. Sets the scene nicely for what follows with fruits dressed in warm vanillin French oak and supple tannins. 92 Points" - Jeni Port, Wine Pilot

"The seductive 2022 Hewitson Ned & Henry’s Shiraz is classic Hewitson with an engaging, bright fruited style showcased by approachable boysenberry, blackberry and dark cherry aromas with instant appeal. Nice density and weight to follow, still reserved but also with genuine integrity and fruit focus lifted by coffee grounds oak and stalky tannins. 92 Points" - Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot

"A seductively deep inky purple in the glass and with aromas of freshly squashed blackberries and milk chocolate with a hint of liquorice, the 2022 Ned and Henry’s Barossa Valley Shiraz has oodles of fruit intensity, a typically creamy palate, gentle dusty tannins, and over delivers on price. Great winter drinking. 92 Points" - Melissa Moore, Wine Pilot
