Reviews

"The blend here is 35% Grenache, 33% Shiraz and 32% Mourvedre from the Barossa. 48% of whole bunches are included and then the wine undergoes ageing for nine months in older French oak barrels. The vineyards which provide the fruit date back into the 1800s and average over 75 years of age. If there is one thing that Dean Hewitson and his team never fail to do, that is to make wines full of flavour that are terrific drinking. Deep garnet, this is fresh and full of energy. Finely balanced, there are notes of red fruits, dry herbs, raspberries, mulberries and coffee grinds. This is seamless in structure with silky tannins, a seductive texture and excellent length. Cracking value, wonderful drinking and a future for at least the next five to eight years. 94 Points" - Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot

"When the stars align this blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre can do some mighty good things. In this case it’s an almost equal split of the varieties creating a smooth and seamlessly integrated medium to light bodied wine of flavour and poise. Floral with a slightly rustic note of damp earth, a little rose petal and primary plummy fruits. A light touch of oak only has finished things nicely. 93 Points" - Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot

"This is immediately enticing on the nose with dark plum, star anise, rich floral and roasted hazelnut aromas, followed by a richly flavoursome palate offering juicy fruit intensity together with plump mouthfeel and silky tannins. Wonderfully harmonious and soothing with a lengthy, satisfying finish. At its best: now to 2035. 93 Points" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

"35/33/32% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre; 48% whole bunch, 12 months in old French barriques. Red cherry, red plum and a touch of cranberry here with hints of spice, dried herbs, pressed purple flowers, almond blossom, dried citrus rind and earth. Medium-bodied, spacious and energetic; fine sandy tannins lend support, leaning savoury on the medium-length finish. There is a lot to like here and it's very easy to drink. 93 Points" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

"One sip and you know exactly where you are: this is pure Barossa Valley country. Super friendly, ripe, unctuous and sweet fruited, the blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre is a natural for the region, elevating all things red fruited and spicy. Sun-drenched aromas and flavours in plum, black cherry, aniseed and spice. So smooth, soft and plummy across the palate – concentrated fruit off old vines with an average age of 75 years is definitely the star here – and it just goes and goes. 92 Points" - Jeni Port, Wine Pilot

"Going strong after more than two decades, Hewitson’s Miss Harry Barossa Valley GSM has seen Grenache-based wines take their place at the top of the wine pops, and rightly so. Lighter than Shiraz or Cabernet and just heavier than Pinot Noir, they’re the Goldilocks of reds, just right for the cooler weather. The 2023 Miss Harry, with 35% Grenache, 33% Shiraz and 32% Mourvèdre from old vines (some dating back to the 1800s), is plush and velvety with gorgeous ripe raspberry and blackberry fruit with a juicy mouthfeel, and, as always, is excellent value for money. 92 Points" - Melissa Moore, Wine Pilot

"A signature Barossa blend. Dusty paper with light peppery spice and touches of bresaola, earthy tones of cigar, graphite and rhubarb. Purple and red fruits of plums, raspberries and dried cranberry crested with piquant spice. Just medium bodied, perky and upbeat. Super fine fly-knit tannins, soft and cushiony under purple flesh with a graphite framework. Stays in the imminently fresh category. 92 Points" - Regan Drew, Wine Pilot

"Miss Harry is a GSM blend that Hewiston and the Barossa Valley does so well. Some seriously old vine fruit is in this wine with whole bunch perfume adding a prettiness. Chalky mineral nose with bright crunchy fruit, and loving the savoury restraint that is all raspberry and boysenberry. A mid weight wine with lovely ripe tannins and a nice chalky grip to offset the red frog candy sweetness, adding vibrancy, not syrup. Fresh and so easy to drink – love the dry chalky finish, reminds me of these kind of styles from the Rhone Valley. 90 Points" - Annette Lacey MW, Wine Pilot
