2022 Belle Ville Rosé Mourvèdre
Our Belle Ville Rosé is named after the house in Provence that the Lou and Dean Hewitson lived in, close to 30 years ago. In the very early stages of raising their young family, Dean was working at a nearby winery putting his hand to Provençal style, Mourvèdre dominated Rosé. Taking his learnings from this idyllic time, this Rosé is classically made, using traditional Provençal varieties from our home in Barossa Valley. We don’t need to irrigate our vineyard sitting below the winery as it grows as the classic Provencal Mourvèdre: as they say, but in French, “with its head in sunshine and feet in water”.

Reviews
"This is instantly appealing on the nose with sweet strawberry, creaming soda and citrus peel aromas, followed by a juicy palate offering youthful fruit flavours with vibrant acidity, making it highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2025. 93 Points" - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit
"This is good. It’s soft and powdery with red cherry, a little liquorice root and spice, and a floral/bergamot thing happening. It has some weight and flavour, but tastes dry, and the finish is even and long. Texture is so pleasing. Gentle and lovely. 93 Points" - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
"As you would expect from Dean Hewitson, this rosé is made from his beloved mourvèdre and it paints a pretty picture. Salmon pink in the glass with aromas and flavours of redcurrant, raspberry, red cherry and grapefruit cut with gentle soft spice, white and red flowers, almond paste and stone. Some nice fruit sweetness is tempered by stony acidity finishing long, red-fruited and moreish. 92 Points" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
"Gee whiz, I do like this rosé. It’s a blend of Mourvèdre and Cinsault from the Barossa and strikes a wonderful balance between some nice, sweet strawberry nuances and a dry savouriness that is a feature of the finishing palate. Nicely textured with a fine acid to control the lines." - Ray Jordan, Wine Pilot
"Dean Hewitson worked in the Provence region back in the 90s and has never forgotten the joy of a great Rosé. His are very much modelled on the best from that region. The blend is traditional, Mourvèdre (83%) and Cinsault (17%). The Mourvèdre is actually a ‘selection massale’ from the legendary Old Garden vineyard. A gentle orange/bronze hue, there is a subtle, fresh nose with hints of wildflowers, spices and red berries. Balanced, clean and refreshing, this is an easy drinking Rosé, which is very well crafted. Lots to like here. 91 Points" - Ken Gargett, Wine Pilot
"A nod to Provence, with 83% Mourvèdre and 17% Cinsault. Very pale salmon. Fine, tight and drying nose: old chalk dust, paper reams, hints of redcurrant, rose petal, cherry blossom and strawberry leaf. Generous front palate of easy red summer crunchy fruits then layered with a waxy weight and a serious drying, dusty grip. Carries more than your average rosé. 91 Points" - Regan Drew, Wine Pilot
"Copper-pale salmon in colour. The maker was inspired by his time living and working in Provence in 1995. He employs similar Provencal grape varieties, Mourvèdre and Cinsault, and the result is summery and textural with a degree of sweetness. Light and enticing, dressed in apple blossom aromatics, rose florals and cherry and strawberry fruits with lively musk, confection notes. Meets the need for a chilled rosé that can be enjoyed by itself, and a food-friendly rosé capable of mixing company with a range of foods. 90 Points" - Jeni Port, Wine Pilot
