Old Garden Mourvèdre 2009
"...the mother/daughter relationship with '10 Baby Bush Mourvedre is immediately obvious..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 96 points
Light, clear, but bright red; the mother/daughter relationship with '10 Baby Bush Mourvedre is immediately obvious; this wine has greater intensity to its red fruits, but the same lithe grace and the remarkably fine, almost silky, tannins. Will live for a long, long time.
Baby Bush Mourvèdre 2010
"...none of the fearsome tannins the variety can produce."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 93 points
The vineyard was established with cuttings from the 1853 mourvedre planting (the oldest in the world); light, bright crimson, the medium-bodied palate has attractive red berry, spicy fruit, with none of the fearsome tannins the variety can produce.
Gun Metal Riesling 2011
"...the name tells you of the steely minerality at the core of the wine..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 93 points
Bright straw-green; the name tells you of the steely minerality at the core of the wine, but not the surrounding lime, apple and tropical flesh. Delicious.
Rose 2011
"...the dry finish making it an all-purpose wine."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 92 points
A blend of grenache, cinsaut and carignan; vivid puce in colour, it has an aromatic bouquet, then a finely detailed palate, the dry finish making it an all-purpose wine.
Miss Harry 2010
"The only question is why it is so underpriced."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 94 points
Predominantly grenache and shiraz, with small amounts of mourvedre, carignan and cinsaut, sourced from 25 separate vineyard plots, five over 100 years old, half of the remainder over 50 years old. Medium-bodied, there is wonderful tension between the array of predominantly black fruits and the savoury tannins on the finish. The only question is why it is so underpriced.
LuLu Sauvignon Blanc 2011
"...the tropical fruits are more developed, which is good..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 89 points
Pale straw-green; while the alcohol is on a par with some other Adelaide Hills sauvignon blancs, the tropical fruits are more developed, which is good, but the wine doesn't have enough drive on the finish.
Private Cellar 2009
"...the intensity and length of the wine is prodigious..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 97 points
Top Wine in Australia in "Shiraz & Family" Category
Light, clear crimson; given the medium-bodied weight of the wine, the intensity and length of the wine is prodigious; unlike the '08, red fruits are the main theme, rather than black, on the aromatic bouquet and through the palate. Made from very old vines, and comes with a 20-year cellaring guarantee; French oak and fine tannins complete the story of its ultra-limited production.
Ned & Henry's 2010
"...a wine with both serious flavour and texture..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 94 points
Bright crimson-purple; a wine with both serious flavour and texture, introduced by a spiced black cherry bouquet, then a more savoury palate with plum and cherry, French oak and tannins in significant support.
The Mad Hatter Shiraz 2009
"...soars on the back-palate..."
25-Jul-2012Rating: 96 points
From a single vineyard in the cool Blewitt Springs (unofficial) subregion of McLaren Vale that spent 22 months in new French oak. Its bright crimson colour heralds an elegant medium-bodied wine that has an attractively fragrant bouquet, but soars on the back-palate and finish with its waves of sweet red cherry fruit and gossamer-fine tannins.
